BAG Day 2006

Me and Mrs. Ninth Stage purchased his and hers Walther/S&W P22 pistols. What’s in your pocket?

    Your neighborhood that bad?

    Not any more ;)

You don’t need a bad neighborhood to have guns, these are just fun guns. Mary and I both have concealed carry permits but we carry larger caliber pistols than these itty bitty cute little .22s.

Later I plan on getting a supressor for mine so I can plink in the back yard without ear protection and without annoying the neighbors.

Congratulations on the purchase! For a suppressor, I highly recommend the Gemtech Seahunter w/QD mount. That, with Aguila subsonic “sniper” ammo out of the P22 is really quiet. At SHOT show, we were shooting it during the show and no one knew about it. :)

Seems like everybody is getting one of these things. I may have to join the fun.

    Sweet.

We love ours. Hope you enjoy yours as much.

Countertop - Thanks, they are so cute.

Josh, I’ve shot a friend’s with a suppressor and it was a Gemtech but it was an Outback-II. I even shot it with Aguila SSS (60 grain bullet “Sniper Sub-Sonic”) among other ammo, it was a blast. I only got to shoot it indoors and it was very quiet. The hilarious thing about the Aguila SSS is, because of it’s short case, you could occasionaly see an orange flash of burning powder and gas above the ejection port.

And Josh, both Countertop and I can’t be wrong. :)

I bought the wife one when she expressed the desire to follow me to the range.

They’re more fun than ice cream.

Be aware of one problem. The slide is soft, but the internal mechanism is hardened steel. The ‘ears’ on one of the trigger parts can easily gouge the inside of the slide. Unforturnately I discovered this fact after about 500 rounds.

There are instructions on the web about how to round off the ‘ears’ where they contact the slide, and by doing so I was able to stop the damage before it got too bad.

Also…learn to reassemble this puppy without the guide rod they give you. It’s not hard once you get the knack.

BJBarron, Thanks for the warning, I hadn’t heard anything about that. I’ll check it out and apply the fix.

As I said above, the wife and I both have our CCWs but, although she has a pistol in her car, I can’t get her to carry anything. She is used to much larger pistols, her favorite is my 1911 and her second favorite is her S22, still a largeish pistol. I hope that by getting her used to a smaller gun she’ll become comfortable with carrying a small gun in a larger caliber.

I wanted to point you to the instructions but I couldn’t find them on the web.

So, pull the slide off and look at the frame. On the frame, on each side of the magwell you will see small squares of metal. Work the trigger and you will see that they move back and forth a bit.

Look at your slide and see if you have any aluminum scored at the point that the slide would cover these bits of metal.

I’ve been told that Walther has fixed most problems and I’m hoping the new issue P22s have this problem fixed. If not….

The problem is that the visible edges of these bits of metal were very sharp on mine and gouged the slide instead of smoothly riding on a small incline machined into the slide.

I had to take a dremel tool and carefully round off the leading edge (front -top) of these bits of trigger mechanism on both sides. I tiny file will do it also. You just want the edge rounded a bit so it doesn’t dig into the slide.

And the trick to putting the slide back on without the dowel is to use your pinky finger on the hand you are holding the slide with to quide the spring rod into it’s little hole.

    Luck
