Seen The Light

Tam has seen the hoppy light emanating from Stone Brewing Co.’s Ruination India Pale Ale. Welcome aboard the hop train.

I mostly enjoy Stone’s IPA and Ruination IPA with an occasional Arrogant Bastard Ale thrown in. When I want a stout that makes Guiness taste like Budweiser I’ll opt for their Imperial Russian Stout.

Oh, and Josh is another Stone Brewing Fan. If you ask him nicely I’m sure he’ll offer up his reccomendations. (Be warned tho’, I’ve heard that he’s gone a little wheat between the ears.)

Mmmm…hefeweizen. Outstanding stuff. I’m more a fan of the german hefe’s than american as they have less hops. If you can find it (don’t know how available it is out of Texas) try Shiner’s Hefeweizen. Brewed in true bavarian fashion. 5.6% and you’d never know it.

I enjoy a wheaty hefeweizen with a slice, it makes a great summer drink. I used to drink Pyramid’s hef but I can’t find it around here. I’ve had Shiner’s but I find I prefer Harpoon’s. I don’t claim to be a hefeweizen connoisseur so take it as an individual preference.

But the rest of the year is another matter. I have to confess that I am a hophead. I love me my hops and a good IPA is my choice unless I can have an Imperial IPA, then I’m in yeasty heaven. OK maybe an occasional stout. OK OK I’ll drink an Irish Cream Ale or an English Ale sometimes too.

Harpoon’s UFO, eh? I must try this.

I’m by no means a “connoisseur” so I drink what I like. I’ll stay away from the raspberry though. I’ll take a slice of lemon or lime in my brew but IMNSHO raspberrys belong in a cobbler or atop a good homemade ice cream.
