sounds suspiciously like my suck ass experience with charter. switched to Verizon FIOS and man, life is rockin!!

FIOS cuts and removes your cable line here :(, this forcing you to use their TV and phone service over the fiber optic line after you signed up for internet. Just a warning. Right now i’m on Optinum Online which only failed when a big truck hit my cable line.

Thanks to both of you for the tips. Turns out FIOS is unavailable out here in the boons. I’m either unlucky or safe.

For the first year of Comcast as my ISP the connection was unreliable and the speed was middling. After numerous service calls that never seemed to coincide with my outages, a service tech finally identified the problem as the cable between my house and the distribution point up the street. It took them two weeks to replace the drop to my house because they had to trench across the street, but once that new cable was in, my service has been speedy (3.0+MBPS) and flawless. Sorry to hear that your service is so bad.

    No DSL in your area?

Kevin, I’m on my third new drop and service is speedier and more reliable than ever - not saying too much.

My main gripe is that when my service is out my neighbor’s still works. I know because I can get wireless from the routers I set up for them.

DSL has finally come to my area in the last month or so - I’m seriously considering it.
