Packing.org

Packing.org is down and, I think, out for the count.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been getting comments about the packing.org outage at an old post. Unlike earlier disappearances, this time it has been down for weeks.

I got the contact info for Mark Solomon, the site owner for packing.org, and attempted to ask him about the outage. The telephone number is disconnected and the email address is defunct.

One alternative to packing.org is Handgunlaw.us.

Here are a couple of links with more info:

After the jump is what Mark Solomon wrote last year about what was going on (via Google’s cache).

Packing.org administrative

I, Mark Solomon, the owner of packing.org, have gone through another chapter in my life this past month. It is beneficial to explain to the packing.org community.

As little time as I had in the past few years with my job, I will have less in the next three, as I have just started law school, which is an all time encompassing venture, as I’m sure many packing.org’s readers already know.

I’ve resigned from my job, am selling my house, and have moved to another city. Just this week, classes have begun, and I’m trying to organize everything to be able to make the next three years as amazing as they can be.

What does this mean to packing.org? State administrators are going to be heavily relied upon to update their state pages. I have called for and received many offers to administrate state pages, and this weekend, I will be awarding these jobs to their new lucky (?) volunteer administrators.

If I’m lucky, I will find a person with enough time to function as a daily/weekly volunteer manager to “police” the state pages and answer questions. This person will be able to teach and help the state administrators, as I have not had the time, and will certainly have less time for the next three years. It is thursday, and I have at least one full book to read and at least one paper to write before monday, and there’s still tomorrow to add to this list. I am in the class of May 2009…a full-time student…again.

If I can make updates to this process here, I will, but those who volunteered and are chosen to be administrators, you will hear from me my email this weekend.

HMMMMMMM… Gunboards just updated software because of an ongoing DNS attack. A couple of other forums are running kinda slow….I may need to get fitted for a thicker tinfoil hat.

Here is another option to Packing.org, http://www.usacarry.com. I will have recip maps up within the week with an extra feature!

Thanks for the post. It looks like the maps will be coming next Tues/Wed. It is taking a little longer but will be worth the wait,

looks like a bunch of us had the same idea. Buddy of mine and I registered a domain to do something similar.

I like how a lot of the recip maps look very familiar :)

Hey Rob, check out the maps we just launched. I bet you haven’t seen any like this!

Packing.org was an excellent site. Maybe we can duplicate the site and allow a forum just as on pdo. The forum allows people to talk about their adventures with handguns which are not perfect anymore than the people who carry them. Too bad it looks like my favorite website is gone. Law school cannot be that time consuming that you couldn’t get someone to tend the site. Good luck anyway.

I, too, relied on Mark’s superb website, and am sorry to have seen it go down.
If I can be of some assistance please contact me. Thank you.

I wish you luck in your adventure in law school Mark. I will ALSO miss your website of PACKING.ORG.. It ( and all the people there ) have helped me very much ! I hope to see it back up in the near future as well !!!!!

USACarry.com is a great website. Try it out.

Packing.org will be missed, hope we find another site that is just as good, Let me know of any sites that are just as good, I could use the Info to help out more people. here is one I found http://www.carryconcealed.net/

Maybe Mark’s motives are not as pure as you may think. He is becoming a lawyer. The ACLU is one of the biggest orginizations against gun ownership.
He will most likely be a member of the ACLU.
    Just a thought.

Thnkyou 4 the info best wishes 2 PACKING.ORG
