BoT #40
Published by Ninth Stage October 7th, 2007 in Educational, Shooting.Box O’ Truth #40 is up. Brush-busting or deflecting bullets is the challenge for this one. Results are better than you’d think, though I’d like to see a few more shots in each caliber.

I was not shocked by the effect on the light .223/5.56 rounds. It has been well documented since the lat 60’s and through the 80’s on the 55gr rounds ineffetiveness on penatrations. Even the beefed up 62gr still has touble with penatration and deflection of the round.
It is why so many troopers are trying to get their hands on M14 rifles with the heavy .30 cal round. Which I wish the military would switch to with either the 6.5 or 6.8 round.
I’m not so enamored of the .270/6.8 round. I’d like to see the military adopt a .260/6.5 or .243/6mm round - lower weight for the same round count and more efficient rounds that still fit the AR mag with a reasonable round-count.
I really like the 6mm AR (6.5 Grendel necked down to 6mm), the projectile doesn’t project so far into the case so you can get a full load of powder behind the bullet.
