“Life of a Gun”
Published by Ninth Stage November 1st, 2007 in Bias? What Bias?, Guns, Media.Tonight Nashville’s WKRN Channel 2 news at 10 had segment called “Life of a Gun”. Mostly it’s trying to find controversy over a Sheriff office selling confiscated guns.
Classie Wilson was killed by 14 year old using a recycled handgun. The gun had been”traded in” by the Maury County Sheriff in 2001. It was “traded in”, legally, to a dealer in firearms. In 2006(? IIRC) it was legally sold by a local dealer. An unnamed 14 year old Bailey Middle School student illegally obtained the gun and killed the popular Cahal Market owner.
The news story showed many different handguns but it seemed they showed the Tec-9 more often than others. I have no idea, and they did not say, what kind of gun was used. Showing the Tec-9 seemed like pandering to a certain segment. There is nothing “magic” about that gun but it seems to have significance in some circles.
Significantly, Classie Wilson’s son says “it’s the right of every American to own a gun” though he does not think that the police should sell guns. It’s hard to fault him for feeling that way after his mother was murdered.
UPDATE: The original spelling of Classie Wilson in the Tennessean was “Classy”. I’ve now corrected it in this post.
