Metal Storm Imploding?
Published by Ninth Stage May 13th, 2008 in Civil Liberties, Commerce, Guns. You probably remember Metal Storm as the company making those programmable high speed electronic “machine” guns seen on you-tube. Now Metal Storm seems to be having financial problems.
[I]n its 1999 prospectus, [Metal Storm] hypothesised that it could earn as much as $1.1billion in revenues from its technology over five years.
At the time it also raised the possibility of the O’Dwyer Smart Gun replacing the 76million hand guns in the US, at $860 a pop. Or at least getting a 5 per cent commission for its technology being used in hand guns everywhere. The company even raised the spectre of its technology “being applied” to the 147million shotguns and rifles in the US. The prospectus noted the Smart Gun, which no longer appears to be in development, could in some way reduce the 35,000 gun deaths in the US each year.
Metal Storm hoped to make it’s fortune at the expense of American citizens’ rights. Can’t say I’m sorry they’re failing.
BTW, my favorite, unintentially funny, Metal Storm video is the one where a fire truck with a bunch of Metal Storm “pods” mounted shows up at an aircraft fire.
