.30 BR
Published by Ninth Stage October 15th, 2008 in Ammo, Guns, Shooting. The new 30 Remington AR’s specs. real close to a .30 BR - except for a .500″ base dia. instead of the BR’s (and the 30-06’s, and the .308’s, and a pile of other cartridge’s) .473″ dia.
Any bets on how long until we see one necked down to 6.5 or 6mm by some tactical competitors?
UPDATE - What I said in a comment below: I just found out that it’s a rebated rim cartridge, .500 body with .473 (.308 or ‘06) base ala the .284 winchester. Not as interesting as at first glance.
Better cartridge drawing here.

What I see as more exciting is that there will be a major manufacturer making barrel extensions and bolts big and strong enough for the .500″ case head of the 30 RAR. Yeah, you could neck it down to 6 or 6.5, or you could use most of the same parts and shoot a 6BR/BRX/Dasher in an AR. A 6-30RAR would be really cool, but I think the good brass available for the BR family would be nicer than a couple extra grains of powder.
In any event, it looks pretty cool. I hope it catches on enough for the secondary stuff to come about.

Still pretty interesting. Take a .30RAR upper, slap a new barrel on, mill a charging handle slot and D&T the bolt carrier, and pin it to a match lower, and you’d have one heck of a High Power gun in any of the 6BR or improved cartridges.
Oh, and re “good brass”: If the round doesn’t take off, the only option will be Remington brass, and that thrills me not.
But, with that .473″ rim dia., the Remy’s bolt assy. should work fine behind an AR-15 length 6mm BR/etc. barrel. I think that’s the bright spot.
And yes, my last comment sounds like I hadn’t read AughtSix’s before posting. Well I hadn’t. AughtSix’s was in akismet hell for a day or so.
