.30 BR

The new 30 Remington AR’s specs. real close to a .30 BR - except for a .500″ base dia. instead of the BR’s (and the 30-06’s, and the .308’s, and a pile of other cartridge’s) .473″ dia.
Any bets on how long until we see one necked down to 6.5 or 6mm by some tactical competitors?

I Know That Guy

He gave me a very interesting and helpful book he authored on combat stress, the flight or flight response, and methods to mitigate and use it.
I did not know that he now owns Detonics.
Good luck with your lawsuit, Bruce.

Saturday Night Special

To the trained eye, this looks like a Saturday Night Special:

That is, to the the eye trained by this:

It’s a terrible shame really, the P22 was a wonderful promise. A promise made by Walther of a miniaturized P99, cute as a button, and chambered for .22 Long Rifle.  The only problem is the implementation.
In real [...]

Worth

That letter is worth the paper it’s written on, minus the damage from smearing ink on it.
UPDATE: A taste of why.
UPDATE: Here’s how it will start.

It’s a Thumbrest

I’ve read the posts by the gunbloggers who had the great fortune to be invited by Para-Ordnance to train with Todd Jarrett.  By all accounts a good and productive time was had by all. However there were some who still don’t get the beauty of the M1911 platform.
I read the Glockenspiels of the Glock aficionados [...]

“I just left a sporting goods store and you would think that the number-one selling item would be plywood or potable water or gasoline right now,” he said. “Apparently it is AR-15s and .223 ammo. I watched at least 20 people buy AR-15s and cases of .223.”

must be spinning in his grave over this Mini-14 20 round magazine promotion.
Actually, I think that wiser heads in the company are trying to wipe off the stain the big man’s words left on the name Ruger, and 20 round magazines seemed like a nice place to wipe.

Numbers Change and So Did I

You need not wonder why.
Kellerman’s numbers may have changed, but so have his terms.
The original (and debunked) quote was, “a gun owner is 43 times more likely to kill a family member than an intruder.” The new and improved quote is, “guns kept in the home were 12 times more likely to be involved [...]

Gun Show

I hope, for the artist’s sake, that he has an FFL.  And ran a NICS on his buyers.  And observed CA’s 10 day waiting period before transferring his blinged up rifles.

Among The Most Accurate

Among the most accurate descriptions of a weapon I’ve read in the media in a long time.
Pendleton said several shots were fired from a semi-automatic AK-47-type . . .
And then they blow it completely.
. . . assault rifle inside the house and several more were fired on the outside.
Folks, folks, folks.  Semi-automatic rifles are [...]

Nu-Uhh!

You have to be pretty smart to dismiss a point by point refutation of your argument with a simple “nu-uhh”. I guess just about as smart as an M.D.

So What Happened?

If Kevin can do this with a brand new rifle, why couldn’t Lon Horiuchi hit what he was aiming for with his business rifle?  Oh wait, he did.

High Speed Firearm

Videos.  You get your race-gun hybri-comp plus compensator in action, an AR-15 showing ejection and bolt bounce 2 times,  there’s your CUTAWAY(!) 1911 in action, with and without restraints, an S&W Scandium 340 smashing some dudes hand, plus a bonus feature of I don’t know what.  All courtesy of Tripp Research.

You probably remember Metal Storm as the company making those programmable high speed electronic “machine” guns seen on you-tube. Now Metal Storm seems to be having financial problems.
[I]n its 1999 prospectus, [Metal Storm] hypothesised that it could earn as much as $1.1billion in revenues from its technology over five years.
At the time it also [...]

Overbore

There’s a post over at Accurate Shooter about overbore cartridges with an accompanying chart purporting to list cartridges in order of their “overboreness”. I commented:
Volume/area is a poor proxy for “overboreness”. I haven’t thought it through yet but since a .50 bmg is basically a scaled up ‘06 it should equal a 30?06 in [...]

Sweet Shooting Machine

Congratulations to Kevin on his new rifle.  It’s all dressed up and ready to go.  I’ve heard great reviews from others about the 700 R5, yours should shoot like a dream too.  I particularly like that spirit level [wink].

32 to 1

I know it’s not scientific but I’ll take my pleasure where I find it. And I know it doesn’t “give”, it protects.
USA Today poll: Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?

We’re winning 32 to 1.
