He Regrets Shooting This Can
0 Comments Published by Ninth Stage May 29th, 2008 in Art, Educational, Shooting.John Webber, now 70, used to use a brass mug given him by his grandfather as a target for practice with his air-gun. Turns out it’s not brass, but gold, and dates back to 400 B.C.
The Persian mug is expected to sell, at auction, for around a million bucks.
Name the Jerk-a-Jammer target in Jerry the Geek’s video and earn ever-lasting fame.
Chicks With Guns, The Movie
1 Comment Published by Ninth Stage December 13th, 2007 in Guns, Shooting. Now there’s a documentary about girls and guns, A Girl and a Gun (really, judging by the previews, it’s girls and guns). Trailer here and more here.
The cause of Cowboy Blob’s piston upper KaBOOM has been diagnosed and a new upper is on the way.
POF-USA did an autopsy on my kaBoomed upper:
[snip]
They’re going to build me a new upper and bill Wolf for it.
(I still think it should be “KaBLOOM”)
New 600 Yard Group Record
0 Comments Published by Ninth Stage October 31st, 2007 in Fun & Games, Shooting.Earlier this month I pointed out Mark Schronce’s 3/4″ record 600 yard group. Mark set a short lived record.
Bob Hoppe is the new record holder, his 37/64″ group (humor me with my fractions) was shot with a 6mm Dasher (6BR with the shoulder blown forward).
Congratulations to Bob Hoppe!
Hot Women Shooting Guns
0 Comments Published by Ninth Stage October 22nd, 2007 in Fun & Games, Guns, Shooting.Jessie Abbate wins top ladies honor in the USPSA multi-gun championship. She is only one of the many hot women competing in the action sports today. I’d like to see more of them.
Jessie is a member of Team Glock. I’d also like to see the shotgun and rifle she used.

Gun Crime Offsets for legal gun owners. That’s the stupidist idea I’ve heard in some time. Legal gun owners are gun crime offsets, 2 million times a year.
Wait a sec, I just read it I’m changing my mind:
When you buy a gun-crime offset, the money buys ammunition for poor people in bad neighborhoods [...]
In a newspaper article by Mike Moore (no, not that one) caroms all over the place while shooting a few rounds from an AR. Not a bad story for a newbie and newspaperman but I think he gets this one reversed:
Personally, the world I inhabit sits between the weapon-free, Coke-and-a-smile one and the [...]
You’re lucky if your Ruger 77 can shoot 3/4″at 100 yards. Your Remington 700 or Winchester 70 can probably do better than that with handloads. Mark Schronce can do it at 600 yards.
Putting 5 rounds from his custom Light Gun in 6mm BRX into .749″ at 600 yards, Mark Schronce set a new any-gun record.
Box O’ Truth #40 is up. Brush-busting or deflecting bullets is the challenge for this one. Results are better than you’d think, though I’d like to see a few more shots in each caliber.
It seems that oil on the outside of loaded ammo does not damage primers.

Improving Your Game
0 Comments Published by Ninth Stage September 10th, 2007 in Fun & Games, Shooting.Via Catfish at the Texican Tattler, a set of tools for improving your mental game.
Whether that game be rifle competition, pistol competition or, dare I say, golf, they have the tools for you. And if Brian Enos gives you a thumbs up, you know it’s good stuff.
As someone said elsewhere, the reason ammo is so expensive now is because the Chinese are buying up all the lead to put in toys.
Nashville Charity Shoot
0 Comments Published by Ninth Stage August 30th, 2007 in Fun & Games, Shooting.Held at Stones River Hunter Education Center and the Tennessee Clay Target Complex, a handgun and shotgun competition and charity shoot for the Nashville Area American Cancer Society.
The inaugural Charity Shoot to benefit the Nashville Area American Cancer Society was a big success. Ronnie and Pat Barrett were honorary chairs for the event that attracted [...]

Quickly. Video, 10 shots in 26 seconds from a heavy benchrest gun.
Think you can shoot a five shot group smaller than 1.403″? How about at 1000 yards?
Five shots, five “X”s, 1000 yards, 1.403″ group. Congratulations to Tom Sarver.
Guy shooting a .50 bounces one off a steel plate and shoots himelf in the ear-muffs.
You can even hear the ricochet zinging back.
Via Accurate Shooter where they say “That’s why you should only shoot low-velocity rounds with soft lead or frangible bullets when shooting at relatively close range.” That might be true if you’re [...]
The telltale signs of too much pressure. The example at Accurate Shooter is commercial Federal brand .308 hunting ammo.
With the relentless pursuit of more velocity and the “next higher node†by many reloaders, it is important to pause and think about safety. And one has to remember that most brass will not hold up [...]
